Committee Help Needed

There are 16 operating committees in the Club organization and each has a chairperson in charge of that committee. The Club is trying to establish a back-up for each chairperson to provide committee continuity and act as chairman when the chairman is out of town or otherwise unable to attend meetings, work parties, functions, etc. Some Committees have co-chairs; some don't - we need volunteers!

The standing committees and their chairmen are: Nominating - Scott Karman; Budget and Finance - Gerard Kurzawski; By-Laws - Empty; Membership - Paul Joos and Janet Joos; Legislative - Roger Kronze and Dan Campbell; Junior Programs - Jim Warden and Ray Noakes; Newsletter - Wayne Perry; CMP - Steve Boehm and Ron Milanek; Entertainment/ Fundraising - Gerard Kurzawski; Trap - Joe Montouro and Stew Beck; Allegheny County Sportsmen League

- Empty; Building & Grounds - Scott Karman; Hunter Safety - Steve Boehm, Gerry Roche, and Jeff Ayres; Recreational Pistol Program - Steve Boehm; Range Master/Archery Program - Jim Warden; Metropolitan Police Revolver League - Denis Nill and Bill Kramer.

Help the Club

To minimize the operating costs and keep membership dues as low as possible, the Club depends on its members for maintenance and upkeep. From time to time the Club needs the professional expertise that members might have.

Currently we have a need for electrical, plumbing, and HVAC expertise. The work is usually done during the work parties on the 3rd Saturday of the month, but can be done at almost any time. If you have this type of expertise, and are willing to pitch in to help maintain the club, please contact Steve Boehm at Stephen.Boehm@verizon.net.

Club Certified Instructors

For an instructor to be certified in the Personal Protection Outside the Home (PPOTH) Course the NRA requires the instructor take the PPOTH Course as a student, successfully pass the live firing exercises and course written test, and then participate in assisting teaching the course to a class. This all needs approved by an NRA Training Counselor. Stew Beck, Steve Boehm, Joe Montuoro, and Denis Nill successfully passed the PPOTH Course earlier this year in March.

On June 11 and 12 Steve Boehm, Joe Montuoro, and Denis Nill assisted Greg Kesden (NRA Training Counselor) in conducting the PPOTH Course for Instructors Linda Karman and Clete Schirra who successfully passed the live firing and written test. Certification for Steve, Joe, and Denny is in process, the necessary paperwork submitted by Greg to the NRA. Linda, Clete, and Stew will need to participate in the teaching requirement to obtain certification. Hopefully this will be accomplished in October of this year when the club is scheduling a PPOTH Course for October 2 and 9. (This is a 2-day course).

There are other club members who have expressed a desire to become certified instructors and instructors in this particular course but due to scheduling conflicts were unable to participate in the sessions conducted to date. If anyone is interested in becoming a Certified NRA Instructor please contact Denny Nill (412-531-5890) and he will work with Greg Kesden to try and set up the necessary training and certification requirements. Also, please indicate the discipline, pistol, rifle, shotgun etc. for which you would like to be certified.

Last year the Club’s team won the league championship and has the trophy on display at the clubhouse.

Work Party

Work Parties are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month to do maintenance and improvements around the Club. These work parties (Club volunteers) are a critical part of Club operation. Without proper maintenance and an effort to improve the Club, members would find it more and more difficult to use the Club’s facilities. The Directors ask everyone who can to donate some time to these work parties. Lunch is provided.

May Work Party - The people who attended the May work party were: Mark Anania, Steve Boehm, Bob Foster, Bill Kramer, Larry Lagazza, Ron Milanek, Joe Montuoro, Dennis Nill, Ray Noakes and his daughter and son in law, and Glenn Woods.

They scraped the trap parking lot, cut trees, cut weeds, cut grass, cleaned out the indoor archery range, repaired rifle range target holders, patched the celotex in the indoor pistol range, and leveled the bird trailer. Good job by all!!! June Work Party - The people who attended the June work party were: Mark Anania, Steve Boehm, Jim Byerly, Joe Montuoro, and Denny Nill.

They weed-wacked the entire property and worked on the Kubota: they sharpened the blades, replaced the tie rod ends and adjusted the brakes. In addition they installed the finish mower deck on the Furguson tractor. (All on a very HOT day.) Thanks to one and all.

Metro Police Revolver League

The indoor matches have been completed and, of the 6 teams in the league, the Club came in 5th place for .22 caliber and 4th place in center fire. Congratulations to Jim Johnson for his high score in center fire and congratulations to all participants of the Indoor League for completing the season under some very adverse conditions.

The Outdoor season for the Metropolitan Police Revolver League began the week of May 23 and will continue through August 22, 2010. If you are interested in shooting the Outdoor season or for the next Indoor season which begins in January, please contact: Denis Nill at 412-531-5890 or Bill Kramer at 412-835-5453.

Wednesday Night Trap shooting is open to the public. Sunday Afternoon Trap Shooting runs all year from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm every Sunday. This is also open to the public.
